'The
Business' (2005) was a film written by Nick Love (The
Football Factory, Goodbye Charlie Bright & Outlaw) in
one weekend whilst in New York. It was billed as 'Goodfellas in
the sun'. Whether it is a cinematic masterpiece is for others
to decide - we are purely interested in the Football Casual
brands which were featured within the film.
Being set in the 80's and on the Costa del Sol,
it was great seeing so many retro brands featured in this film.
This really was the era the Football Casual
really came to prominence and is arguably the golden age - the
tennis chic phase.
The introduction of high-end European designer
sportswear such as Lacoste,
Sergio
Tacchini and Fila
onto the terraces was really during this period. It really broke
ground at the time when these brands started appearing on the
top boys and created quite a bit of envy. With the addition
of classic footwear such as the Diadora Borg Elite and adidas
Samba - the true Football Casual was born.
If you like a British
gangster flick set in the sun, have an appreciation of vintage
European sportswear and enjoy killer tracks from the 80's -
then this is the film for you. This film is like a good underwear
model. It may not have much depth, but it's lovely to look at.
