Paul Heaton was born in West Kirby in 1962, and spent most of his childhood growing up in Sheffield. Heaton first came to fame whilst fronting 'The Housemartins' who in the 80's netted two UK top ten hits, including their only number 1 'Caravan of Love' (1986). When 'The Housemartins' disbanded, he setup an even more successful band in the shape of 'The Beautiful South' who enjoyed 5 top ten hits and an additional number 1 with 'A Little Time' (1990). They themselves called it a day in January 2007. He is believed to be a Sheffield United fan.
For a scene which prides itself on its purist aspirations, it may come as a surprise to many that Paul Heaton is fairly well regarded in Football Casual culture. This is probably mainly due to his love and desire for Football Casual outerwear brands such as Stone Island.
Heaton had been spotted wearing Stone Island long before it became fairly mainstream, and had written the foreword in a book by a Sheffield United hooligan. All this and more has developed a level of respect for Heaton amongst the Football Casuals.
In summary, despite being associated with middle-of-the-road pop, Heaton has clearly made up for it with the time and effort he actually invests himself as a Football Casual. Whereas many other celebs merely get their stylist to make them look the part - it appears Heaton is the genuine article. Also, 'The Housemartins' are an excellent indie band of the 80's and are highly-recommended by us.
